In late 2006, I wrote a post about the emerging trend of crowdsourcing and wondered out loud how that would impact book writing and publishing in the future. Aussie marketing pro Gavin Heaton commented on the post that we should try an
experiment and publish a book together.
Without giving it more than a thought, I agreed to launch the experiment.
In 2007, Age of Conversation was published. Over 100 marketing professionals from across the globe came together and each contributed a chapter to this groundbreaking book.
All the proceeds were donated to charity, and, if you fast forward to today, Age of Conversation 2 and Age of Conversation 3 have also been published. All together, over 400 authors from 16 countries have raised over $50,000 for charity.
What started as a spontaneous experiment has evolved into a remarkable series that has launched new careers, book publishing deals, and many personal and professional collaborations.
And we’re not done.
Gavin and I just announced the call for authors for Age of Conversation 4. If you’d like to show off your social media/marketing chops and write a chapter — the time to sign up is now.
With this book, we’re looking at social through a very personal lens. As we said in the original post “how is social media impacting you, your work, your family, and your view on life?” Your chapter might be as elaborate as a real case study or it might be as simple as your best time saving trick. But it’s about you and how you ”’do’ social.”
Check out the chapter sections (each author chooses a section and then tells us a little about the chapter they want to write — so we avoid duplications) here but don’t wait too long. We usually close down the author list within a couple of weeks of the initial announcement.
Not only will you be able to add ”author” to your list of credits, but you’ll become part of a very collaborative and supportive community of marketing professionals. And perhaps best of all — we’re using the Age 4 proceeds to change the world through charity: water.
We’d love to have you on our author roster!
