These are the 5 most important roles in a marketing team!
Setting up a marketing team is perhaps the most difficult task for a seasoned marketer, entrepreneur, or HR professional. Different requirements apply to every company. Fortunately, all marketing teams have one thing in common. Whether your marketing team consists of 3 employees or numbers as many as 20 marketers, our experience is that these 5 roles must be present in your marketing team.
The coach
A good marketing team starts with the right leader. The coach is preferably someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, a sharp mind, and ideally someone who possesses a natural leadership style. Because the coach spends a large portion of his or her time coaching the marketing team, they must also be able to roll up their sleeves and be fully prepared to get to work.

Think primarily of an all-rounder for this position. Specific experience is less important here than passion, energy, and a good brain. In other words, soft skills. Furthermore, it is important that the person in the coaching role gets along well with the team. So do not hesitate to ask for references. By the way, pay some attention to LinkedIn as well: you might have shared connections.
From SEO-nerd
If you want to get started with marketing, SEO plays a major role. And it doesn’t matter which industry your company operates in. It is therefore of great value to have someone on your team who is not only capable of ranking your company higher; that person should also possess a dose of infectious passion for SEO. The heart of the search nerd beats faster for bid management and the small details of search algorithms, and the search nerd is always up to date with the latest Google updates.

The candidate must have experience managing SEO for another company or agency, so look for experience on their CV. This is where LinkedIn comes into play again: look for people who frequently participate in SEO-related group chats on LinkedIn.
The writer
SEO is worth hardly anything without good content. It doesn’t matter what kind of content you create; most content has one thing in common: it needs to be written. Having an exceptionally good writer on your team is therefore a must.
The ideal, driven writer has his or her roots in the publishing or journalism world. He or she has extensive experience in writing and managing an editorial calendar, and has a creative approach.

Tip: Once you have found a good writer, you might consider using freelancers as well. By assigning more experts to your content, you increase not only the quantity but also the quality. The writer can act as a ‘Chief Writing Officer’ to manage the content.
The website master
(Almost) all customers will visit your website. Your website should therefore be a top priority in terms of both investment and personnel. Therefore, ensure that a website master is one of the first people you hire. Incidentally, by website master, we do not mean the traditional ‘webmaster’ position, but rather someone who can manage web design and/or development. As a company—provided you have the knowledge and skills in-house and there is enough work to justify employment—it is best to manage websites yourself. After all, it is your calling card.

When you find someone who possesses both design and development skills, you have struck gold. Can’t find that person? Then figure out which of the two specializations is most important to you and look for someone who possesses that talent.
Designers and developers are often active in communities. They constantly exchange information to keep their knowledge up to date. Take advantage of this: browse forums and post the vacancy on community websites such as Dribble.
The data animal
The data executor is better known as Marketing Operations. In the modern world of B2B marketing, it is almost impossible to survive without such a data executor on your team; someone who helps manage technical solutions, ensures that data and statistics are available to the team, and can report effectively.

This person needs to keep the entire department focused on data-driven decisions. Additionally, they should monitor progress and set goals. You recognize the data animal immediately when you meet them; it is hard to get them away from Excel or the latest business intelligence tools!
Experience with data is not a plus, but a requirement for the data animal. Look for candidates with a background in finance. Excellent Excel skills are also extremely important.
