A home charging installation quote should include equipment, electrical work and site-specific costs. A charger’s retail price alone does not describe the installed total.
Request these line items
Ask for the charging unit, mounting, cable route, electrical protection, labour, inspection or permit requirements, load management, commissioning and taxes. Identify exclusions such as trenching, service upgrades or restoring paving. Have a qualified installer assess capacity and the proposed location.
A worked budget example
Using invented figures: $650 equipment + $900 installation + $150 inspection = $1,700. If an additional $800 cable/trenching allowance is needed, the total becomes $2,500. These figures illustrate cost structure, not current quotes or a regional average.
Compare equal scope
Give each installer the same parking location, vehicle charging limit and desired features. Ask what power is available while the house is using other appliances, whether load management is included and what warranty covers labour. Count a rebate only after checking current eligibility; an advertised incentive is not a guaranteed deduction.
