Vibration mainly during acceleration can involve the driveline, engine operation or mounts, while wheels and tyres remain possible causes. Record the conditions before agreeing to a repair.
Three distinctions that help diagnosis
Does the shaking disappear when you ease off at the same road speed? Does it follow engine revs in different gears? Did it start after tyre work, an impact or a driveline repair? Describe observations from normal driving only; do not perform risky acceleration tests.
What a workshop may inspect
Load-related vibration may prompt inspection of drive shafts, CV joints and engine or transmission mounts. Uneven engine running can require fault-code and ignition or fuelling checks. Wheel balance and tyre damage can mimic drivetrain faults. The required tests depend on the vehicle and symptom.
What to report
Give the speed range, gear, engine temperature, whether a hill changes it, and any warning lights or clunks. Stop safely for severe shaking, loss of control, smoke or a flashing engine warning. Do not keep accelerating to see whether it clears.
