You give an interview in which you prominently present all the qualities of the product and company. The journalist who conducts the interview has recorded everything, so he can create perfect content. You discuss a number of conditions, as far as possible, with the journalist about the placement of the content. You know, you've mentioned all the crucial aspects of the product and company. It is the journalist's job to turn it into a good story.
What is your surprise that important elements from the interview were not recorded or interpreted differently? Or only a small article has been posted with limited information. That's not entirely strange. So you need to influence this with targeted tips.
What is the purpose of the interview?
Is the interview initiated by the marketer or are you approached to conduct an interview? In both cases, the approach to the interview may be different. The preparations must then be specifically targeted. Are you the one who takes the lead or are you dependent on the journalist's questions?
Deadline
It happens that an interview is tied to a deadline. Of course you don't want to exceed that. Then you lose the opportunity to promote your product or company. Always check if there is a deadline.
Speaking intelligibly
You can quickly be tempted to speak in jargon. Be aware that this is usually not understood, which causes your attention to wane. Also, don't use buzzwords or abbreviations. And if you do use an abbreviation, please report its meaning. If you use a sound bite, immediately include supporting information.
Catchphrase
How great it would be if you could make a statement that turned into a catchphrase. If it is successful, the link to the product or company has been launched. Although catchphrases are temporary, you can benefit from them for that period.
Comparisons
Just telling them how good you are is not enough. Doesn't appeal. Therefore, make a comparison with references to current positive results from third parties, such as a suddenly rising star in the music world. Such a comparison appeals to the imagination.
Statistics
To reinforce an interview, it can be useful to refer to statistics, scientific research results or facts. This can greatly improve the credibility of your story. However, make limited use of this. A lot of this type of information leads to overinformation and no one is going to check that. People will then quickly drop out.
Take your time
Set aside extra time to think about the topics you want to mention in the interview. You are quickly tempted to respond immediately with your experience.
Refer
During the interview, it is advisable to mention the name of the company in the first three communications. You can do that a few times, but not too many, otherwise you run the risk of it being cut out.
